FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Can I take a tour of the school? Yes. We welcome parents and prospective students and feel that touring the school is one of the best ways for you to learn about our school. Tours are scheduled through the Director by calling (510) 547-4432. How early can I apply? You may submit an application once your child is born. However, you are required to visit the school and tour the facilities prior to your child being admitted to the program. These tours should be arranged the Fall of the year before your child will begin school. At what age may a child attend LBCP? Children must be three years old as of Sept. 1. Birthdays within the month of September will also be considered. All final admission decisions are at the discretion of the school directors. Does my child have to be potty trained? Yes, your child must be potty trained. Pull-ups are not permitted. How long has the staff been at Linda Beach? Our Director has been at Linda Beach for 25 years and our Assistant Director for 11 years. What is tuition? Tuition for 2009-2010 will be $215 for the T/TH - 2 day program, $260 for the M/W/F - 3 day program, and $415 for the Pre-Kindergarten program. When will I know if my child has been admitted? Fall enrollment usually begins the prior January or February. For example, enrollment for the Fall class of 2009 will probably begin in January or February 2008. If a space is available for your child, you will be contacted by the school, either by phone or by mail. If a space is not available for your child, your child will remain on the wait list unless you instruct us otherwise. Do you have a summer program? No. Our program follows a traditional academic calendar and runs from September-June. Extended care? We do not offer extended care. Where do most of the families come from? Families come from all over the East Bay, but primarily from Oakland and Piedmont. Do most of the children go onto public or private elementary school? This varies from year to year, but currently about half of our children will attend public and half will attend private school. What if I cannot participate in the classroom on the required basis? We have a list of paid substitutes with whom you can make arrangements to work for you. However, substitutes are to be used for individual occurrences. Linda Beach is a cooperative pre-school and regular parent participation is required. What is the school's discipline policy? At Linda Beach we believe correcting 3 and 4 year olds behavior is best achieved through a combination of fairness, consistency & using "I" messages. On the rare occasion that a negative behavior pattern begins to emerge, we conference with the parents to so that we make sure that we are using the same approach at home and at school. |
